About Me

Hello, I'm Ben Hemphill, and I'm running for Town Councilor for District 2 to help guide Erie towards sustainable growth and ensure it remains a great place to live for all our residents.

Community Involvement

I've been deeply involved in local governance and community boards:

  • I currently serve as a Planning Commissioner since September 2023, helping to shape the future development of our town.

  • I was a member of the Home Rule Charter Commission from December 2022 through April 2023, contributing to the foundational document that guides our local government.

  • I served as chair of the Sustainability Advisory Board from May 2022 through August 2023, where I worked to promote environmentally friendly practices in our Town.

These roles have given me a deep understanding of Erie's unique challenges and opportunities, as well as invaluable experience in public service.

Personal Life

My wife Sam and I have lived in Grandview since 2018. We love being part of this vibrant community and experiencing firsthand what makes our town special.

When I'm not working or engaged in civic duties, you might find me:

  • Going on morning jogs with our dog Luna

  • Skiing throughout the winter

  • Capturing nature’s beauty with my camera

  • Tinkering with computers

  • Biking around town on Erie’s extensive trails

  • Occasionally going for a run around town

These activities not only keep me connected to our community but also help me understand the everyday experiences of Erie residents.

Professional Background

As a mechanical engineer with a master's degree in aerospace engineering from CU Boulder, I will bring a wealth of technical expertise and analytical skills to Erie's Town Council. Currently working in the nuclear sector on innovative energy and cleanup projects, I apply my problem-solving mindset to complex challenges daily. My experience as a registered professional engineer equips me with the ability to analyze data, develop solutions, and manage large-scale projects effectively. This unique blend of technical knowledge and innovative thinking positions me to tackle Erie's evolving needs, from sustainable development to efficient resource management. I'm committed to applying my engineering principles to guide our town's growth, ensure sound decision-making, and drive Erie towards a prosperous, sustainable future

My Vision for Erie

My decision to run for office stems from my passion for Erie and my vision for its future. I am dedicated to:

1. Promoting sustainable growth that balances economic development with environmental stewardship

2. Enhancing Erie's quality of life for all residents

3. Encouraging multi-modal transportation policy

4. Fostering community engagement and transparent governance

I believe that with my unique blend of technical knowledge, civic experience, and love for Erie, I can contribute significantly to shaping a bright future for our community. I'm committed to listening to your concerns, working collaboratively, and making decisions that benefit all Erie residents.

I look forward to the opportunity to serve you and work together in making Erie an even better place to live, work, and thrive.
